Honoring yesterday’s founders, saluting today’s distinguished academic staff and faculty

On February 8, we once again celebrated Founders’ Day at Michigan State University with our annual Awards Convocation, honoring more than two dozen faculty and academic staff members for their distinguished scholarship, teaching, and service.

For those honored at the convocation, past honorees, and those who reflect excellence in their jobs day after day without benefit of such recognition, I offer my sincere thanks. Learn more about this year’s honorees.

Although in the past this gathering also has been the occasion for the president to deliver the annual State of the University address, this year, as last, we’ve posted my State of the University message online in video format. This year’s four short videos focus on budget and finance, students, engagement, and research and graduate studies. Access the videos here.

I will be able to elaborate even more on the excellence of our scholarship, research, and outreach in my annual President’s Report, to be posted online next month. This year we’re looking at how our faculty is working to answer the “Big Questions” confronting humanity in the land-grant spirit of service while reflecting our core values of quality, inclusiveness and connectivity.

As we work diligently to restructure, refocus, and take charge of our future in the face of some of the most challenging financial conditions in living memory, we haven’t lost sight of our primary mission of knowledge discovery and dissemination. Team MSU is all about making a difference in the lives of our students, for our communities, and for all our stakeholders in Michigan and around the world.
