Dec. 8, 2022: Honoring and celebrating our Spartan community

Dear Spartans,

As 2022 draws to a close, I want to pause and reflect on the past year and to honor and celebrate our Spartan community.

When I look back at my January calendar, I remember the anticipation of students returning to campus and classrooms. We weathered snow and ice and a bit of uncertainty, and just on cue, the sun came out for spring break and graduation. The summer was busy with Spartans pursuing education abroad programs, continuing research efforts, building new teaching methods and keeping our campus spaces and places beautiful. In the fall, we weathered different kinds of storms, but the sun has come out again, and we are working together with renewed commitment to each other and the goals of this great university. For 167 years, Spartans have advanced the common good with uncommon will, and together we have added another year to that ledger. I am proud of our collective efforts to make our campus — and world — a better place.

As you think back on the year that was, I invite you to view this photo gallery for some of 2022’s highlights. These images represent the joy of each passing season, the passing of time and the vibrancy of our community.

On behalf of my husband, Tom O’Halloran, and myself, I wish you a very happy end to the calendar year, time of reflection and holiday season.

My best,

Teresa K. Woodruff, Ph.D. (she/her/hers)
