Financial support and rankings

Message from the President
September 2021

Donors expressed their generosity and confidence in the university by making $232.2 million in gifts and pledges in the last fiscal year. The total amount rivals those last seen in our Empower Extraordinary capital campaign, which concluded in 2018. The support and partnership of all who contribute to MSU’s future is something I celebrate every day. My thanks to alumni, employees and all donors for their commitment.

Here’s another vote of confidence: MSU continues to earn high rankings in external assessments. This year the university remains ranked among 100 Best Global Universities, No. 32 among U.S. public universities and No. 80 overall by U.S. News & World Report. U.S. News gives MSU nine No. 1-ranked programs and ranks 38 programs in the top 25 nationally.

Most recently, the Eli Broad College of Business undergraduate supply chain management program once again ranked No. 1 in the country, as the college itself improved its overall undergraduate program ranking to No. 23 in the country among all institutions.

In other rankings, we placed No. 35 among all public institutions in the country in Money’s 2020 “Best Colleges” ranking. And among many other high rankings and recognitions, MSU is among the top 100 patent-granting universities in the world, according to the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association.
